There is so much controversy in the world today about dieting. There are some people who abhor the Body Positive community and believe that the community completely denounces what is healthy. On the other side, there are many Body Positive Activists who do take that exact extreme position.
Here’s where the controversy comes in; there are people who are extremists in their beliefs as it pertains to dieting, health, and body positivity, causing everyone to stand solid in their ground and not find the middle ground, which is really where the healthiest beliefs lie. When I talk about my beliefs on dieting, it is not because I denounce health. I am coming from the belief that dieting is not healthy, effective nor sustainable. Here’s why diet mentality is very problematic and here’s how it can impact your health! Most people turn to dieting because they don’t like how their body looks and they want to lose weight. If you genuinely feel that your body is not what is healthiest for you, stop looking toward manipulating your food to get to the place that you want to be, and start looking at your relationship with food. People turn to dieting as a solution for their unhealthy relationship with food when, in fact, dieting is just perpetuating that unhealthy relationship with food. In what world do we solve a problem with the very problem?! What is the solution then? The solution isn’t restricting our food as a means to manipulating our bodies. Our bodies are much more intelligent than any of us give it credit for and it’ll tell you what it needs. The solution is to get in tuned with your body. Listen to what your body is telling you, not what your brain is telling you. For a more in-depth solution, here it is! Our brains tend to override our body’s messages with “shoulds,” “shouldn’ts,” “bad foods” and “good foods.” Let your body take over and learn how to trust it. How can you start? Consider checking out my video here about getting back to basics and knowing your hunger! When you are able to silence diet messages, listen to our body and give it what it needs, our bodies tend to find their way to the place that it wants to be at to function at its best and healthiest! Let your body be your guide! Please share with anyone who may be struggling with their readiness to begin their treatment journey. If you have any questions, concerns or requests for future posts, feel free to leave a comment or message me privately. I wish you connection with your body on your way to finding your State of Balance! You can also check out my YouTube channel for more inspiration!
