I love how strong the Eating Disorder recovery community is becoming! However, I can’t help but wish that there was no need for Eating Disorder recovery communities because I wish that no one struggled with Eating Disorders.
I believe that Eating Disorders can be eradicated from this world. I know this may sound bold, but I want to be part of this eradication of Eating Disorders. I can’t do it alone. We all play an important role in this. When it comes to Eating Disorder prevention, we need to work on the next generation. We need to help PREVENT the development of Eating Disorders. In order to do this, it needs to be an effort from parents, educators, scout leaders, religious officials and anyone else who plays a role in the upbringing of children. However, prevention can’t occur without proper awareness and information. That’s where all of us come in. If you have struggled with an Eating Disorder, don’t feel weird about educating someone about them. If you have a doctor that seems to grossly misunderstand Eating Disorders, don’t be shy to tell them the actual truth. If your friend jokes about how someone “looks” like they have an Eating Disorder. Let them know that you don’t have to look a certain way to have an Eating Disorder. Also, don’t be afraid to say how damaging saying something like that can be for others. If you are in class and your health teacher gives a very broad, and possibly untrue, definition of these complicated disorders. Raise your hand and speak up. Don’t be afraid and don’t feel you are too little to speak up and educate. You are important in spreading awareness around Eating Disorders. And you are important in the prevention of Eating Disorders. Please use your voice to educate and inform. Feel free to share any of my content to help educate people who may misunderstand these mental health disorders. There’s a lot of great information out there, just be careful around what’s true and what is misinformed! Share your knowledge and share your wisdom. Please…because the next generation needs you! Be sure to subscribe to my E-mail list for additional helpful resources sent to you every week, as well as sneak peaks and new exciting announcements! I need your help to spread that message and to help protect the future generations. I want to share your stories to help spread this message also! Please, if you feel comfortable, sharing your story, I would love to hear them. If you’d like, I would love to share them here also. No matter what part of your journey you’re in, your story can help others! Let’s build this recovery and prevention community! You can send me your thoughts by commenting here, DM-ing me on Instagram or sending me an E-mail! I wish you wellness on your way to finding your State of Balance!
