I don’t think I need to emphasize the importance of having your support system. However, sometimes we neglect to know and use that support system.
I’m challenging you today to truly reflect and think about who your support system consists of. Think about your family, friends, educators, religious clergy, etc. Now, write down all of the names of the people who you consider in your support system. Once you do that, ask yourself if you are actually utilizing this support network you have? If not, what’s holding you back? Do you feel like you’ll be a burden? Do you feel like your struggles aren’t valid? If you struggle with using your support system, it’s important to have this discussion with your therapist. Confront the beliefs you have that are making it difficult for you to utilize this support. Think about those people in your network. If they were struggling the way you struggle, would you want them to bring it up to you? Would you want them to confide in you? Would you want them to allow you to help them? If the answer is yes to anyone of those questions, then why don’t you think that you deserve the same? Why don’t you deserve to confide in someone else? Remember, your support system are the people who love you dearly and care for you. Allow them to be there for you and support you. Challenge yourself to think about how you have or have not been utilizing this support. How can you improve on using this support network? Once you think of all of this, challenge yourself to actually take action on it. Next time you are struggling, reach out. You are not alone.
