Eating Disorders can be super sneaky. Our Eating Disorder self can be really tricky and sneaky, and it can even try to rationalize the disordered behaviors to sound like it really is your healthy self. This makes recovery especially difficult and sometimes confusing! In recovery, we need to be able to distinguish when our Eating Disorder is acting or taking over our behaviors. We need to be able to call our Eating Disorder out! On my Youtube channel, I talked a lot about these behaviors this past week! If you haven’t yet checked out my channel, what are you waiting for?! Check it out here! -How to tell the difference between physical and mental hunger: This is important in recovery, because we likely have had the mental chatter get in the way of us being able to distinguish our physical hunger cues. Physical hunger is when our bodies are telling us we actually need food in that moment while mental hunger may be what you believe you should/shouldn’t be eating in that moment or may take the form of emotional hunger (eating when stressed or bored). While it’s ok to give in to both, it’s important to know the difference. -How to stop calorie counting: Let me guess, perhaps math wasn’t/isn’t your greatest subject in school, but when it comes to counting calories you become a top-of-the-line mathematician? Counting calories becomes obsessive in Eating Disorders and will inhibit your recovery. This habit can be very difficult to kick, but this video will give you some ideas on how you can work on letting this recovery-sabotaging habit out of your life! -Sneaky Eating Disorder behaviors: As I had said, Eating Disorders can be sneaky! It can be deceiving to where your loved ones are unaware of your behaviors and it can be so deceiving even you are not aware that your behaviors are disordered! Here are some sneaky behaviors to look out for if you suspect that you have an Eating Disorder or if you’re in recovery, these are behaviors you need to be honest with yourself and your treatment team about!
