“SOMETIMES HOLDING ON HURTS MORE THAN LETTING GO.” Whoever the first person was to say this is genius! Too often, we hold on to whatever is hurting us, keeping us sick or holding us down.
This may be a person, a situation, a feeling or an experience. We typically refer to these things as “negative attachments.” These negative attachments keep you stuck, keep you hurting and keep you re-living negative experiences. Why do we hold on then? If something or someone is hurting us, why are we so reluctant to let go? The reason for this tends to be because while the unknown is scary and uncomfortable, the known is also scary and uncomfortable, but a scary and uncomfortable that you know keeps you feeling safe because it feels familiar. Does that make sense?
Chances are these things sound great to you, but still cause you an unsettling experience. That unsettling experience is probably fear or anxiety of what life would be like without those things? If it's an Eating Disorder you're struggling with, you may wonder who you are without your Eating Disorder identity. You may even wonder why you're holding on to your Eating Disorder. Logically, you know life could, and would, be better without those things that you’re holding onto. It’s your unhealthy self that is deceiving you and trying to convince you otherwise! Let’s show your unhealthy self who’s boss today. Try this fun and cathartic way of letting go. Maybe you’re looking for closure, if so check out how this technique could help you. None of this is to say that letting go is easy, in fact it’s super hard! With that said, you are strong, much stronger than you think, and you can do the hard things. You may THINK it’s impossible, but that’s just a thought, NOT a fact! I hope you found this post helpful and that it inspires you to reflect on what it is that you need to let go of. I would love for you to share these letting go experiences with me! You can leave a comment here, E-mail me or DM me on Instagram! I wish you freedom from negative attachments on your way to finding your State of Balance! You can also check out my YouTube channel for more inspiration!
