Tele-Help

It is one of my goals to make sure that everyone has access to getting the help they need, and the concept of tele-help is helping to make that happen. You may have heard of tele-medicine; the ability to see a doctor for medical concerns right from the comfort of your home. We can now broaden this idea to allow more access for everyone to get the therapeutic help they need.

It’s very unfortunate that, of helping professionals, only a small portion of us actually specialize in the treatment of Eating Disorders. Because of this, it may pose a barrier to getting the treatment you need. You may not have a car to get to treatment, or the funds to make travel arrangements to get to sessions or maybe you do, but there are no professionals in proximity to you that work with the issues you may be struggling with.

Thankfully, tele-help can break down this barrier and you can get the help you need. As you all know, my practice is located in Patchogue, NY, however I am able to help anyone who has a permanent residence address in NY. This means if you’re upstate, anywhere on Long Island or even in the city, I can help you. And the best part is you don’t have to trek out to sessions if they are too far from you.

It is imperative that anyone struggling with an Eating Disorder get the right care from professionals who know how to help. Don’t get discouraged because of physical barriers, because we can virtually tear them down (haha, did you catch that pun there?)!

Do you feel that you need help for your Eating Disorder and find yourself hitting barriers in your quest to finding treatment? Well, here’s how video sessions can help knock those barriers down and get you the help you need;
  1. Travel: If you have no access to a car, limited funds for public transportation or live in an area that constantly has weather that poses travel limitations, then video sessions may be right for you! Snow no longer has to inhibit you from getting to your session since the only path that needs to be cleared is the one that leads you to your smart phone, tablet or computer!
  2. No Eating Disorder Specialist near you: Have no fear! If you live in NY, then you found a specialist that is no further from you than your phone! If you L ive elsewhere, do some research for an Eating Disorder specialist that works in your state and inquire about whether they offer video sessions.
  3. Stuck at home? Maybe you have kids and don’t have the options for alternative caretakers. Or maybe you work from home, and want to use your break-time for therapy. Whatever the reason is, we can make getting help work!
  4. Going away to school? Good for you! Transitioning to school as well as back home on breaks can be tough! Imagine how much tougher it would be if you constantly had to switch therapists depending on where you are. Some of my clients have went away to school and no longer could physically make it to my office, yet we still see each other for session every week!

So, what do you think? Could this work for you? Is this a good option for you? If we could eliminate all of these barriers, could you make it work?

I hope you found this post helpful and please share with anyone who could benefit. If you have any questions, concerns or requests for future posts, please leave a comment or message me privately.

I wish you access to the right care on your journey to finding your State of Balance!
